Show of Hands with Miranda Sykes

Returning by popular demand may be a hackneyed phrase its but certainly accurate when applied to Show of Hands – since our first festival in Spain in the Spring of 2014, the phenomenally-popular trio have been acknowledged as the act most of our festival-goers want to see again.

The original duo of singer songwriter Steve Knightley and multi-instrumentalist Phil Beer first got together 25 years ago and went on to become a major force in British folk music. Two became three ten years ago when they were joined by Miranda Sykes, augmenting their unique sound with her powerful double bass and rich harmonies.

As well as being a superb vocalist and double bassist, Miranda continues to surprise audiences with her musical versatility, and demonstrates her ability as a guitarist and interpreter of song, slipping effortlessly between genres.

Over the years the band have moved on from their folk duo image, and evolved into a hard hitting acoustic band, selling out UK and European tours and headlining some of the biggest festivals across the world.

Their accolades include being voted Best Live Act – the only category voted for by the public – at the 2004 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and winning the Best Duo and Best Original Song in the 2010 Awards. They’ve also been voted the Greatest Devonians in a county poll.

Show of Hands are undeniably one of the strongest current forces in acoustic music – unreservedly England’s finest.
